China’s September LNG imports climb

China, the world’s largest energy consumer, reported a 13.3 percent year-on-year increase in September LNG imports.

LNG imports totaled 5.73 million tonnes last month, data from the General Administration of Customs showed.

In the January-September period, the country imported 47.90 million tonnes of chilled fuel, a year-on-year rise of 10.6 percent.

On the other side, China’s pipeline gas imports dropped by 5.9 percent to 2.93 million tonnes. Thes imports are down 7.2 percent year-on-year in the January-September period to 25.83 million tonnes.

China is currently the world’s second-largest importer of LNG behind Japan but this could change next year.

Japan’s LNG imports stood at 54.80 million tonnes in the January-September period, up by almost seven million tonnes compared to China’s.
