GTT books new LNG tank contract from Hyundai Samho

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has contracted France’s GTT to design tanks for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

According to a statement on Tuesday, GTT will provide design and associated engineering services for the tanks of two 174,000-cbm LNG carrier.

Also, GTT said the vessel would feature its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

HSHI will deliver the vessel in the first quarter of 2026 to an unidentified owner in Europe.

GTT said it won the order in the second quarter, but it did not provide any additional information.

This contract could be related to an announcement by HSHI’s parent KSOE on June 16.

KSOE said in that announcement that HSHI would build two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for $480 million, or about $240 million per vessel, and deliver them by March 2026 to an unidentified shipowner based in Oceania.

This order is tied to Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas.

Last year, Capital Gas ordered in total four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at Hyundai Heavy and one at Hyundai Samho.

With this new order, the Greek company’s managed fleet will rise to 14 vessels.
