GTT scores SHI order for 14 LNG carriers

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured a large order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the new contract, GTT will design the tanks of 14 174,000-cbm LNG carriers scheduled for delivery from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the third quarter of 2026, according to a statement.

The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT said that SHI is building twelve vessels for an American shipowner and two on behalf of an Asian owner.

The Paris-based firm said it won the order at the end of June, but it did not provide any additional information.

SHI revealed this order worth about $3 billion on June 22. This order is tied to the giant Qatari shipbuilding program.

Sources and brokers said that Global Meridian Holdings, part of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, is behind the order for the 12 LNG carriers.

Moreover, a Korean consortium consisting of H-Line Shipping, Pan Ocean, and SK Shipping, placed the order for the two LNG carriers.
