GTT nets Hyundai Samho job for CMA CGM’s LNG-powered containerships

French LNG containment giant GTT has won a new contract from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for six LNG-powered containerships ordered by shipping group CMA CGM.

GTT said in a statement it won the contract in the second quarter.

These vessels, each capable of carrying 8,000 containers, will have an LNG fuel tank with a capacity of 6,000 cbm.

Also, each LNG fuel tank would feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment technology, the Paris-based firm said.

Hyundai Samho plans to delver the vessels from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025.

This order brings the total number of container vessels equipped, or to be equipped, with GTT technology to 80, according to the firm.

GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière said in the statement that “this order underlines the renewed confidence of our partner CMA CGM in GTT’s technologies to equip its LNG-powered containerships.”

LNG Prime reported on this order, citing sources, on June 5.

CMA CGM placed orders for ten LNG dual-fuel containerships and six methanol-fueled vessels, bringing its orderbook to 69 ships.

The firm said that its “e-methane ready” fleet, including the methanol-powered ships, would have a total of 77 ships by 2026.
