KNOT takes delivery of first LNG-fueled shuttle tanker chartered by Eni

Norway-based Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers (KNOT) has taken delivery of an LNG-powered shuttle tanker that will go on a long-term charter with a unit of Italy’s Eni.

KNOT is a joint venture by Trygve Seglem’s TS Shipping Invest, the parent of Knutsen, and Japan’s NYK.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) delivered the 277.54 meters long LNG-powered Frida Knutsen on Tuesday, according to a statement by NYK.

The tanker will start serving ENI Trade & Biofuels in the North Sea and Barents Sea under the charter deal.

NYK said the vessel is KNOT’s first dual-fuel shuttle tanker that can use not only heavy fuel oil but also LNG.

Besides LNG fuel, the vessel features a VOC recovery system and an energy storage system, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it said.

In February 2020, KNOT signed charter deals with Eni for two 124,000-dwt LNG-powered shuttle tankers.

DSME should soon deliver the second vessel, Sindre Knutsen, to KNOT as well.
