Petronas starts using Avenir’s LNG newbuild

A unit of Malaysian energy giant Petronas has started using Avenir’s first small-scale LNG newbuild following the vessels’ delivery earlier this month.

Avenir delivered the dual-purpose LNG bunkering and supply vessel (LBV) Avenir Advantage to Future Horizon on October 24.

Future Horizon, a joint venture between Petronas’ unit MISC and Avenir, chartered the vessel to Petronas LNG for a period of three years.

According to Avenir, the vessel is the first dedicated LBV in South East Asia.

It will supply LNG fuel to ships operating in the region and deliver it directly to Petronas small-scale customers.

Avenir Advantage is the first of two sister ships Avenir ordered from Keppel Nantong.

The second vessel Avenir Accolade will join the firm’s fleet by year-end. This ship will transport chilled fuel for Golar’s JV Hygo Energy to various ports across Brazil.

These ships are 123.4 meters long and feature dual-fueled propulsion and type C tanks. Both have a price tag of about $4o million, each.
