Inpex, AGL team up on another hydrogen hub in Australia

Japan’s Inpex, the operator of the Ichthys LNG export plant, has joined forces with Australia’s AGL Energy to work on another hydrogen hub.

In June, Inpex and AGL signed a memorandum of undersetting to conduct a feasibility
study for AGL’s Torrens Island hydrogen hub in South Australia.

Now, the two firms entered into a memorandum of understanding to conduct a feasibility
study for AGL’s Hunter Energy Hub in New South Wales, according to a statement by Inpex.

The Hunter Energy Hub project mainly includes hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and the export of hydrogen and hydrogen derived products, it said.

Inpex will study the feasibility of the hub in cooperation with AGL and other partners such as Fortescue Future Industries and Osaka Gas Australia.

AGL said in a separate statement that thee site could initially support a green hydrogen and ammonia production facility of up to 2GW in scale.

The feasibility scope would focus on assessing the accelerated implementation of a large-scale production facility from minimum 150MW and up to 2GW of hydrogen and preferred derivatives including ammonia for export and domestic use, it said.
