McDermott clinches another Qatari LNG expansion gig

Houston-based McDermott has won another contract from QatarEnergy for the offshore part of the giant Qatari LNG expansion project.

The US contractor already won contracts for the North Field South jackets and topsides and pipelines for the North Field expansion project.

Now McDermott has secured front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the NFS offshore pipelines and power/fo cables project, its said in a statement.

Also, the scope of the contract comprises developing FEED studies for offshore and onshore pipelines, cables, and associated facilities.

The NFS infrastructure is part of the North Field expansion project development and is designed to supply feed gas for two additional LNG trains.

McDermott said it would manage the work from its Doha office with support from Chennai.

The firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.

This new deal adds to a number of contracts QatarEnergy has awarded since it announced a final investment decision on its $28.75 billion North Field East project last year.

Under the project, QatarEnergy will build four mega trains with a capacity of 8 million tons per year in the Ras Laffan complex.

This first phase of the expansion project will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 110 mtpa while the second phase will further boost capacity to total 126 mtpa.

QatarEnergy expects first LNG from the expansion projects in 2025.

The company’s unit Qatargas already operates in total fourteen LNG trains at Ras Laffan.
