Peru LNG ships two cargoes to Europe

Peru LNG has shipped two liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to Europe in the last two weeks following a planned maintenance shutdown in July.

The 173,400-cbm Barcelona Knutsen left Peru LNG’s 4.45 mtpa liquefaction plant at Pampa Melchorita on August 2, while the 174,000-cbm LNGShips Athena departed the facility on August 9, according to state-owned Perupetro.

Both of the LNG carriers are heading to the UK, the data shows, but they could change their final destination in the meantime.

Prior to these two shipments, the LNG plant shipped the last cargo on June 26 aboard the 138,100-cbm Shandong Juniper to Europe as well.

Peru LNG’s plant at Pampa Melchorita shipped five cargoes in June, the same as in the prior month.

In total, the plant sent 680 LNG cargoes since 2010, the data shows.

US-based Hunt Oil holds a 50 percent operating stake in the Pampa Melchorita LNG plant, while SK and Marubeni have 20 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

LNG giant Shell also holds a 20 percent stake and takes all the volumes produced at the facility.
