Wartsila: Skogn bio-LNG plant doubles liquefaction capacity

Norway-based Biokraft, a unit of Scandinavian Biogas, has doubled the liquefaction capacity at its bio-LNG plant in Skogn following the launch of the second train, according to Wartsila.

Wartsila said in a social media post last week that its MR25 liquefaction train is now producing bio-LNG.

“The Skogn plant is now taking its first step towards reaching a capacity of 50 tons per day,” it said.

Wartsila said the facility would reach full production capacity once the biogas production and gas pretreatment capacities are expanded as well.

The Finnish tech firm won the contract last year to boost the capacity of this bio-LNG plant from 25 tons to 50 tons a day for use primarily in the heavy transport sector.

This is the largest plant owned by Sweden-based Scandinavian Biogas, but the firm is working on several bio-LNG projects.

The biogas producer set a long-term target to reach an annual production capacity of 3 TWh of biogas, mainly bio-LNG, in Europe by 2030.
