Woodside taps McDermott for Australian hydrogen project

Australian LNG firm Woodside has selected US contractor McDermott to work on its planned H2Perth project located in the Kwinana/Rockingham area in Western Australia.

Under the contract scope, McDermott will provide pre-FEED services for the export-scale production facility for renewable and lower-carbon hydrogen and ammonia.

Woodside plans to produce hydrogen using electrolysis technologies and natural gas reforming with carbon emissions abated or offset.

McDermott said it would execute the work firm the company’s office in Perth, Australia, and its engineering center of excellence in the Hague, the Netherlands.

“This award follows the successful completion of the concept study on H2Perth and decades of experience executing both onshore and offshore projects for Woodside Energy,” said Tareq Kawash, McDermott’s senior VP for onshore.

McDermott did not provide the price tag of the deal.

Woodside revealed plans for this facility last year saying it would build the project in phases.

Initially, H2Perth would target 300 tonnes per day of hydrogen production, or 20 percent of expected total capacity.
