US Freeport LNG plant ships 100th cargo

The Freeport LNG export project, led by billionaire Michael Smith, has loaded and shipped the 100th cargo from its Texas terminal.

Freeport loaded the milestone cargo on BP’s 173,400-cbm British Contributor that departed the facility on October 30.

The US firm did not revile the destination of the cargo but the vessel’s AIS show it is heading towards China.

To remind, Freeport started full commercial operations of its $13.5 billion, three-train facility in May this year.

Freeport LNG started operations back in 2008 as an import facility. It began export operations from the first train in 2019.

Commercial operations for the second liquefaction train started in January this year.

Freeport LNG is also adding the fourth production unit with a capacity of five million tonnes per year.

First nightime transit

In addition to achieving this 100th cargo, Freeport LNG recently marked another milestone, its first nighttime transit.

The vessel departed Freeport LNG’s terminal on the evening of October 6, the firm said.

The US LNG exporter added it anticipates having more routine nighttime transits by early next year.

Freeport LNG has contracts for about 13.4 mtpa of production capacity under 20-year use-or-pay liquefaction tolling agreements.

The LNG buyers are Osaka Gas, JERA, BP, Toshiba and Total.
