GTT bags Hudong-Zhonghua tank gig for LNG carrier quartet

France’s GTT said it has secured a contract to design the tanks of four LNG carriers ordered at Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua.

GTT said the 174,000-cbm vessels would be fitted with its NO96 Super+ membrane containment system.

Hudong-Zhonghua would deliver the vessels to an unidentified Asian owner during the fourth quarter of 2026, the first and second quarters of 2027, GTT said.

The Paris-based LNG containment giant did not provide any additional information.

GTT won several orders from the Chinese shipbuilder this year. These include six LNG carriers for NYK and CNOOC, four LNG carriers for MOL, and six LNG carriers for MOL and CNOOC.

Sources said that Japan’s K Line ordered four LNG carriers earlier this year at Hudong-Zhonghua for charter to Malaysia’s Petronas.

This new contract could be related to that order.

Earlier this year, K line took delivery of the second mid-sized LNG tanker it chartered to Petronas.

Hudong-Zhonghua delivered the 79,960-cbm LNG Lagenda Serenity in June.

K Line also signed a shipbuilding contract with Hudong-Zhonghua for a third medium-sized LNG carrier in October last year.

These vessels feature GTT’s NO96 L03+ containment system and WinGD’s dual-fuel X-DF propulsion.
