CMA CGM takes delivery of LNG-powered Greenland

French shipping giant CMA CGM has taken delivery of the 15,000-teu Greenland, adding another LNG-powered container vessel to its fleet.

CSSC’s Jiangnan Shipyard delivered the dual-fuel ultra-large container vessel during a ceremony held on Wednesday, according to a statement.

Jiangnan launched the LNG-powered Greenland in November last year.

With this delivery, Jiangnan completed the entire project which included building five 15,000-teu LNG-fueled container vessels for CMA CGM.

In September last year, CMA CGM took delivery of LNG-powered Patagonia, the first vessel in this series, followed by Kimberley in December, Everglade in January this year, and Galapagos in June this year.

With a 366 meters length and 51 meters in width, these containerships are able to carry up to 15,254 TEUs, including 1,800 reefers, according to CMA CGM.

Moreover, they feature GTT’s Mark III containment system and WinGD’s dual-fuel engines.

They will all sail under the French flag between Asia and the Mediterranean, serving CMA CGM’s Mediterranean Club Express (MEX) route.

CMA CGM is heavily investing in LNG as fuel and earlier this year it revealed orders for ten new LNG dual-fuel containerships as well as six methanol-fueled vessels, bringing its orderbook to 69 ships.
