Eastern Pacific Shipping in 50th LNG bunkering op

Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping has completed its 50th LNG bunkering operation in two years as the company’s fleet of LNG-powered vessels continues to grow.

The shipping firm led by Idan Ofer recently took delivery of the second LNG-powered Suezmax tanker from China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).

After that, the 158,000-dwt Starway completed LNG bunkering operations with the Petronas-chartered 7,500-cbm Avenir Advantage in Malaysia, according to a statement by EPS.

In July, Avenir Advantage also bunkered sister vessel Greenway, which EPS claims is the world’s first LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tanker.

The latest bunkering operation with Starway marks the 50th time in two years that EPS has bunkered LNG across its fleet of dual-fuel containerships, dry bulk, and tanker vessels, the firm said.

Most of EPS’ dual fuel vessels are on long-term time charters to companies like BHP, CMA CGM, Equinor, and STL.

However, the pair of LNG-powered Suezmaxes trade in the spot market.

“Bunkering LNG for spot vessels showcases our deep commitment to decarbonization and the industry’s energy transition,” EPS said.

“It also proves that the needed infrastructure to carry out LNG bunkering already exists for those willing to take action to lower their emissions today,” the firm added.
