China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) has completed raising the roofs on all of the six giant LNG storage tanks at its Binhai LNG import terminal in Jiangsu.
CNOOC’s gas and power unit said in a statement that the the roof of the last LNG tank was lifted on September 22 using air pressure.
This is the sixth LNG tank with a capacity of 270,000 cbm and adds to the already four existing tanks with a capacity of 220,000 cbm located in Yancheng Binhai Port Industrial Park.
CNOOC recently completed simultaneous roof raising on three of these giant LNG storage tanks.
The company claims these are the world’s largest LNG storage tanks. CNOOC independently developed and designed the ultra-large tanks.
Following completion in 2023, the Binhai LNG terminal will have a capacity of 6 million tons of LNG, or about 8.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
This is enough to cover the natural gas demand in Jiangsu province within 28 months, according to CNOOC.
