GTT bags new LNG tank gig from Hyundai Heavy

French LNG containment giant GTT said it had won a new order from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries to design tanks for seven LNG carriers.

According to a GTT statement, the 174,000-cbm LNG carriers would feature its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT added that HHI plans to deliver the vessels between the third quarter of 2025 and the fourth quarter of 2026 to an Asian owner, but it did not provide any additional information.

This order is probably related to an announcement by Japan’s NYK issued on August 10.

Under the giant shipbuilding program, state-run QatarEnergy has signed deals for seven LNG carriers with an Asian consortium consisting of NYK, compatriot K Line, Malaysia’s MISC, and China LNG Shipping.

NYK said that HHI would build these carriers and deliver them in 2025 and 2026.

HHI’s parent KSOE said in a stock exchange filling in August that the deal had a price tag of about $1.5 billion or some $214 million per vessel.
