Inpex hits Ichthys LNG cargo milestone in Australia

Japan’s Inpex said its Ichthys LNG export project in Australia had shipped the 750th cargo since the start of operations in 2018.

Inpex revealed this milestone in a social media post on Tuesday, but the firm did not provide any additional information regarding the shipment.

According to the image above posted by Inpex, the 2018-built 182,000-cbm LNG carrier, Pacific Breeze, owned by Japan’s K Line, loaded the 750th export cargo at the Bladin Point plant near Darwin.

This Moss-type LNG vessel is chartered by IT Marine Transport, a joint venture between Inpex and France’s TotalEnergies, and delivers LNG from the Ichthys project to Taiwan’s CPC.

Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between operator Inpex and major partner TotalEnergies.

Other partners include Australian units of CPC, Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.

Natural gas arrives to the 8.9 mtpa LNG plant at Bladin Point from the giant Ichthys field offshore Western Australia via an 890 kilometers long export pipeline.

The project shipped 64 LNG cargoes in the first half of this year, up by 17 cargoes when compared to the same period in the year before.

During the first half of this year, the Ichthys project also shipped 12 condensate cargoes from the onshore plant and 17 condensate cargoes from the FPSO, as well as 17 LPG cargoes from the Bladin Point facility, according to Inpex.

Inpex expects the Ichthys project to dispatch about ten LNG cargoes per month during 2022.
