Germany’s EnviTec inks biomethane deal to supply bio-LNG plant

Germany’s EnviTec Biogas said it had signed the company’s first biomethane purchasing deal to supply a bio-LNG production plant near Berlin.

To date, EnviTec has only marketed biomethane from its own plants. The firm signed the new deal with compatriot Loick Bioenergie.

According to a statement by EnviTec, the agreement covers the supply of a total of 90 GWh of biomethane per year from the three biogas plants operated by Loick Group in Heiligengrabe, Hennstedt, and Huenxe.

The total contract value is more than 100 million euros ($97.9 million).

EnviTec said it would use most of this biomethane from 2024 onwards as an input for the bio-LNG liquefaction plant operated by Balance EnviTec Bio-LNG in Berlin-Ahrensfelde.

Lat year, EnviTec and compatriot Balance Erneuerbare Energien, a unit of VNG, formed a joint venture as they look to produce and supply bio-LNG in the country.

The partners plan to jointly produce and market “CO2-free” bio-LNG for commercial and heavy-duty transport as independent supplier, they previously said.

As part of the plans, the newly established company Balance EnviTec Bio-LNG will build the liquefaction plant in Brandenburg, near Berlin.

It will produce about 100 tons of bio-LNG per day from 2024.

These quantities would make it possible to operate an average of up to 1,800 LNG trucks annually, the partners previously said.
