Croatian FSRU receives 45th LNG cargo

State-owned terminal operator LNG Croatia has received the 45th LNG cargo at its FSRU-based Krk import facility since the launch of operations in January last year.

LNG Croatia said in a short statement that the 2019-built 180,000-cbm, Rias Baixas Knutsen, had arrived at the 140,000-cbm FSRU on October 24.

The vessel owned by Knutsen and chartered by Iberdola loaded the cargo at the Cove Point LNG facility in Maryland in September, according to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue.

Earlier this month, Rias Baixas Knutsen also visited the Sagunto LNG terminal in Spain. It probably unloaded a partial cargo at the facility.

Spanish LNG terminals are working at full capacity with a large number of LNG tankers waiting off Spain to unload their cargoes, according to shipping data.

European LNG demand spiked this year as European countries look to replace Russian pipeline gas and boost energy security.

Due to high demand, Croatia also decided to further increase the capacity of its FSRU-based LNG import terminal.

The capacity of the terminal will rise to 6.1 bcm and the expansion project will cost about 180 million euros ($179 million) and includes the construction of a new pipeline from Zlobin to Bosiljevo.
