Rotterdam LNG bunkering volumes down in Q3

The Dutch port of Rotterdam reported a drop in its LNG bunkering volumes in the third quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year.

Europe’s largest bunkering port said LNG volumes reached 113,701 cubic meters in the July-September period, a drop of about 46.5 percent compared to the same quarter in 2021.

LNG bunkering volumes rose almost 80 percent compared to 63,497 cubic meters in the second quarter but also from 111,804 cubic meters in the first quarter.

In the January-September period, LNG bunkering volumes declined by about 42.8 percent year-on-year to 289,002 cbm.

The port’s LNG bunkering volumes reached record 603,690 cbm last year. However, prices rose significantly during 2022, affecting bunkering demand.

On the other hand, LNG throughput in the port rose 73.8 percent in the January-September period of this year on the back of high gas prices and as European countries look to reduce reliance on Russian pipeline gas.

The port, home to the Gate LNG import terminal, said that total LNG throughput reached 8.62 million tonnes in the nine-month period, compared to 4.96 million tonnes in the year before.
