Croatia’s Krk LNG terminal gets 47th shipment

Croatia’s FSRU-based Krk LNG import facility, operated by state-owned LNG Croatia, has received the 47th LNG cargo since January 2021.

The 2015-built 170,200-cbm, Kool Baltic, arrived at the 140,000-cbm FSRU on November 17 and departed from the unit the next day, according to a statement by LNG Croatia.

Kool Baltic’s AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows that the LNG carrier delivered the cargo to the FSRU from the 2.5 mtpa Elba Island LNG export plant in Georgia.

LNG carrier operator CoolCo, who also manages the Croatian FSRU, recently purchased Kool Baltic and three other LNG carriers from its largest shareholder Eastern Pacific Shipping.

The vessel serves a long-term charter with LNG giant Shell that has a 20-year contract for volumes from the Elba Island plant.

US liquefaction facilities, including Elba Island, have sent most of their volumes to Europe this year due to high gas prices in Europe and as European countries look to ditch pipeline gas supplies from Russia.

Due to high demand, Croatia also decided to further increase the capacity of its FSRU-based LNG import terminal.

The capacity of the terminal will rise to 6.1 bcm and the expansion project will cost about 180 million euros ($185 million) and includes the construction of a new pipeline from Zlobin to Bosiljevo.
