GTT confirms Yangzijiang order for LNG carrier duo

France’s GTT has confirmed a tank design order for two 175,000-cbm LNG carriers with Chinese shipyard Yangzijiang.

GTT said in a statement on Monday that Yangzijiang would build the LNG carriers for a European owner and deliver the vessels between the fourth quarter of 2025 and the second quarter of 2026.

The French LNG containment giant said the vessels would feature its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT did not provide any additional information.

This is Yangzijiang’s first order large LNG carriers and the shipbuilder announced this contract in October.

Besides GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane tanks, the ships will feature dual-fuel MAN 5G70ME-C10.5-GA-EGRBP engines and a reliquefaction system with a capacity of 1.5 tons/hour.

Yangzijiang also said it would build the vessels for an owner from Europe.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Germany’s Hammonia Reederei, which currently has no LNG carriers in its fleet, is behind this order.
