Polish duo in first Szczecin LNG bunkering op

Poland’s dominant gas firm PGNiG and compatriot energy company Lotos Group have completed the first LNG bunkering operation in the port of Szczecin.

The premiere LNG bunkering operation took place on Thursday with a truck-to-ship method delivering the fuel to DEME’s hopper dredger Scheldt River.

The LNG-powered dredger is currently working to deepen the Swinoujscie-Szczecin waterway to enable the Szczecin port to accommodate larger vessels.

Furthermore, the LNG bunkering operation is a joint effort of the two Polish companies’ units, namely PGNiG Obrat Detaliczny and Lotos Asfalt.

The duo have previously carried out dozens of these operations as LNG bunkering services from shipowners at Polish ports grow.

PGNiG, that is in charge of all the supplies coming to the only Polish import terminal in Swinoujscie, says it believes LNG fuel is the “future of maritime transport” in the Baltic Sea.

The firm now provides LNG bunkering services at five ports in Poland. These include Szczecin, Swinoujście, Police, Gdynia, and Gdansk.

Additionally, the company has performed bunkering operations for 12 different vessels so far, claiming it has one of the “best track records in this part of Europe.”
