Petronas completes first Malaysian LNG bunkering operation

State-owned Petronas has completed the first LNG bunkering operation in Malaysia following the delivery of Avenir’s small-scale newbuild in October.

To remind, Avenir delivered the dual-purpose LNG bunkering and supply vessel (LBV) Avenir Advantage to Future Horizon on October 24.

Future Horizon, a JV between Petrona’s unit MISC and Avenir, chartered the ship to Petronas LNG for a period of three years.

The first dedicated LBV in South East Asia completed its maiden operation on Monday delivering the fuel to LNG-powered car carrier Siem Aristotle, according to Petronas.

The Malaysian giant said it teamed up with Dutch Titan LNG to complete the first operation that also marked the official launch of its LNG bunkering business.

During the operation at Pasir Gudang, the 123.4 meters long Avenir Advantage delivered 1,150 tonnes of LNG to the car carrier.

Siem Aristotle is the second LNG-powered vessel that will go on charter to Volkswagen Group.

The vessel is on its way to Europe to start its maiden delivery for the German giant.

Volkswagen started using the first sister ship Siem Confucius in June this year.

The German automaker will use the duo on the trans-Atlantic route, so-called America Round Tour, from Emden to Mexico.
