Finland’s Wartsila has won a contract to supply its LNG fuel gas supply system and other equipment for four new LNG dual-fuel containerships being built for Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL) in China.

Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, part of China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, is constructing the four 8200-teu ammonia-ready LNG-powered containerships as part of an order it received from PIL last year.

The vessels will feature WinGD dual-fuel engines and GTT’s Mark III membrane system.

Wartsila said in a statement on Monday that it had added the orders in its order book in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The company’s FGSS will feed LNG fuel to power both main and auxiliary engines from the vessel’s 7500-cbm membrane tank.

Also, the FGSS includes boil-off gas management and bunkering stations, as well as a fuel control system completely integrated with the propulsion control system and the alarm monitoring and control system (MCS), it said.

Wartsila said it would deliver the equipment to the yard in early 2024, but it did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

PIL will take delivery of the four new ships progressively in 2025.
