Shipping firm Wijnne Barends, an affiliate of the Dutch Spliethoff Group, and Finland’s UPM have christened the fourth LNG dual-fuel short-sea cargo vessel in Delfzijl.
The christening ceremony for the vessel named Lady Monique took place on Saturday, according to a social media post by UPM.
This is the fourth and the last LNG-powered vessel Wijnne Barends ordered at China’s Wuhu in 2020.
It took delivery of the 115 meters long Lady Marie Christine, first vessel in these series, in January last year, followed by Lady Mathilde and Lady Menna.
All of these ships serve UPM under charter deals to transport all kind of paper-related materials.
UPM says that using LNG would enable the company to slash emissions. The firm aims to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of its supply chain by 30 percent by 2030.
Finland’s Wartsila provided LNG propulsion and also storage systems for the four ships as part of a deal signed in December 2020.
The vessels have a Wartsila 34DF dual-fuel main engine and a Wartsila LNGPac system that Wuhu installed below deck.
