Video: Capital Gas takes delivery of BP-chartered LNG newbuild

Greece’s Capital Gas has welcomed a 174,000-cbm LNG carrier in its fleet, the first out of seven being built at South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The LNG carrier named Aristos I will serve BP’s shipping unit under a charter deal that will last up to 12 years, according to Capital Gas.

Propelled by WinGD’s XDF engines and equipped with GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system, the newbuild also features an air lubrication system and increased filling limits.

As previously mentioned, this vessel marks the official entry in the LNG shipping world for Evangelos Marinakis-led Capital Gas. The other six vessels will have the same specifications as Aristos I.

Looking at the current schedule posted on the firm’s website, the delivery of the second LNG carrier will take place in January followed by the third in June.

The fourth and the fifth ship should both join the fleet in August next year.

Furthermore, Capital Gas aims to take delivery of the sixth XDF carrier in September 2021 with the seventh and last vessel in this batch joining in January 2023.
