DSME selects TMC compressors for BW’s LNG carrier quartet

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has contracted Norwegian firm TMC Compressors to supply a complete marine compressed air system to four BW LNG’s carriers.

Under the contract, TMC said it would provide its Smart Air compressors, which it claims can offer up to 40 percent energy saving compared to conventional compressors.

The system will consist of control and service air compressors.

TMC did not provide the price tag of the deal.

The four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers feature ME-GI propulsion, full reliquefaction system, air lubrification system and shaft generators.

DSME will deliver the vessels to the unit of Singapore’s gas shipping giant BW in 2025.

BW LNG confirmed last year it placed orders for four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at the South Korean shipbuilder.

In August the same year, DSME also held a naming ceremony for two newbuild LNG carriers BW LNG chartered to UK-based energy giant BP and Chinese independent gas distributor ENN.

Including these ships, BW LNG has taken delivery of nine ME-GI vessels since 2018.
