BlackRock buys more Cheniere shares

US-based BlackRock, one of the world’s largest asset managers, has purchased more shares in compatriot LNG exporting giant Cheniere.

BlackRock had 21.4 million shares of Cheniere as of December 31, 2022, according to a stock exchange filing.

This represent 8.6 percent of Cheniere’s total shares, the filling said.

The giant asset manager previously reported it had 17.4 million Cheniere shares so this marks a 23 percent rise.

The price of Cheniere’s shares closed at $147.83 on Friday.

Cheniere has 1713 institutional owners and shareholders that have filed forms with the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and, besides BlackRock, some of the largest shareholders include Vanguard Group and Blackstone.

The operator of the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi liquefaction terminals is expecting its LNG production to rise to 45 million tonnes in 2023 despite planned maintenance.

Cheniere’s Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana currently has a capacity of about 30 mtpa following the launch of the sixth train in February last year while the three-train Corpus Christi plant in Texas can produce about 15 mtpa of LNG.

The Corpus Christi plant is also currently undergoing an expansion to add about 10 mpta of capacity.
