GTT scores SHI tank gig for LNG carrier duo

French LNG containment specialist GTT has secured a new order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the contract, GTT will design the tanks of two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers scheduled for delivery between the third quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, according to a statement.

The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Paris-based GTT did not provide any additional information.

This order is probably related to SHI’s announcement on February 1 saying it will build two LNG carriers for some $248 million per vessel.

The shipbuilder said it plans to deliver the vessels to an unidentified owner in Oceania by January 15, 2027.

This is the first LNG carrier order SHI revealed in 2023.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Japan’s shipping giant MOL is behind this order.

Including orders from SHI, GTT booked record 162 orders for LNG carriers and one FSRU in 2022.

The company is expecting that there will be up to 450 orders for large LNG carriers over the 2023-2032 period.
