US FSRU player Excelerate Energy has extended its charter deal with Dubai Supply Authority for the 150,900-cbm FSRU Explorer.
Prior to this agreement, the 2008-built FSRU had a remaining firm charter period of about three years.
Under the new deal, the time charter period will be extended by an additional five years from the end of the existing contract in the fourth quarter of 2025, Excelerate said in a statement on Thursday.
Exelerate did not provide any additional information regarding the deal.
DUSUP initially chartered the FSRU in 2015 to complement existing supply sources, and support Dubai’s seasonal demand requirements.
Located at DUSUP’s Jebel Ali LNG import terminal, the FSRU has become an important part of Dubai’s integrated supply infrastructure, supporting the overall security of natural gas supply and providing flexibility in Dubai’s natural gas network, Excelerate said.
Daniel Bustos, COO of Excelerate, said that reaching an agreement on the extension of the time charter agreement with DUSUP “highlights our ongoing efforts to develop and grow our existing, diversified regasification business.”
Also, he added that Excelerate’s current markets “are essential to maintaining our solid foundation of revenues and providing new opportunities for downstream growth.”
Excelerate recently signed its first long-term LNG supply deal with compatriot LNG exporter Venture Global LNG.
Under the 20-year sales and purchase agreement, Excelerate will buy 0.7 million tonnes per annum of LNG on a free on board (FOB) basis from the Plaquemines LNG facility in Louisiana.
Exclerate operates ten FSRUs, one of the world’s largest fleets of such vessels, and these units are located around the globe, including in Europe.
The firm also ordered one FSRU in South Korea last year.
