Saipem nets Ichthys FEED job

Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem has secured work for the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG export project in Australia.

The award is for booster compression module front end engineering and design services for the LNG development, Saipem said in a statement.

The plan is to install the BCM onto the Ichthys Explorer central processing facility located off Western Australia.

The scope of work comprises the BCM front end engineering and includes the option to provide a lump sum price to execute the full EPC scope from detailed design through to fabrication and load out.

Saipem did not disclose any financial details of the contract.

This marks the third contract for the Ichthys development in November following the McDermott award and Solstad extension.

The Ichthys project produces LNG at the 8.9 million tonnes per year plant at Bladin Point near Darwin.

Natural gas arrives in Darwin from the giant Ichthys field offshore Western Australia via an 890-kilometre export pipeline.

Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between operator Inpex and major partner France’s Total.

Other partners include Australian units of CPC Corporation Taiwan, Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
