China’s monthly LNG imports still rising

China, the world’s largest energy consumer, continued to boost monthly LNG imports and reported a 25.4 percent year-on-year increase in October.

LNG imports totaled 5.02 million tonnes last month, data from the General Administration of Customs showed.

In the January-October period, the country imported 52.93 million tonnes of chilled fuel, a year-on-year rise of 11.9 percent.

On the other side, China’s pipeline gas imports also increased by 1 percent to 2.51 million tonnes. These imports dropped 6.5 percent in the January-October period to 28.34 million tonnes.

China is currently the world’s second-largest importer of LNG behind Japan but this could change next year.

Japan’s LNG imports stood at 60.74 million tonnes in the January-October period, up by almost eight million tonnes compared to China’s.
