International Seaways takes delivery of its first LNG-powered VLCC

New York-based International Seaways has taken delivery of the first of three LNG dual-fuel very large crude carriers that will serve LNG giant Shell under charter deals.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) delivered the 300,000-dwt Seaways Endeavor last week, according to a social media post by International Seaways.

The tanker owner expects to take delivery of the other two LNG-powered VLCCs in this batch from DSME this year.

UK-based ship management firm V.Group won a contract last year to manage these three vessels.

The VLCC Seaways Endeavor became the 43rd vessel currently under V.Ships’ UK management, V.Group said in a separate social media post.

In addition to their LNG-powered engines, the three ships also feature optimized hull forms and propellers, wake improvement ducts, and rudder bulbs to further improve vessel efficiency, according to V.Group.

Such as International Seaways, Malaysia’s AET also chartered three LNG dual-fuel VLCCs to Shell, while Advantage Tankers chartered four vessels.

Shell announced these deals in March 2021 and DSME will build all of the ships.
