Hudong starts work on K-Line’s second mid-size LNG carrier

China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Hudong-Zhonghua has started building the second 79,960-cbm LNG carrier for Japan’s shipping giant K Line.

To remind, the yard kicked off the construction on the first vessel in August this year.

K-Line will charter both of the mid-sized LNG carriers to Malaysia’s Petronas for a period of 12 years.

The 239 meters long vessels will ship the fuel under a long-term deal the Malaysian firm signed with China’s Shenergy Group.

Furthermore, the Wuhaogou-Max (W-Max) vessels will be optimized for the delivery of LNG cargoes to Shenergy’s Wuhaogou terminal in Shanghai.

With a draft of less then nine meters, the ships are capable of delivering fully laden cargoes within the channel’s permissible limits without exceeding the port’s draught limit.

Additionally, both of the LNG carriers will feature WinGD’s dual-fuel X-DF engine and GTT’s NO96 containment system.

Hudong aims to deliver the LNG carriers in the second quarter of 2022.
