GTT scores FLNG gig from Samsung Heavy

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured a contract from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries to design the tanks of a floating LNG producer.

GTT said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the FLNG will have a total storage capacity of 200,000 cbm.

This FLNG will be the first fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system, according to the Paris-based firm.

GTT said that Samsung Heavy is expecting to deliver the FLNG to an Asian company in the first quarter of 2027.

Samsung Heavy and Japan’s JGC recently won a contract from Petronas to build the third floating LNG producer for the Malaysian energy firm.

The unit will be the first nearshore FLNG in the world and will have a minimum production capacity of 2 million tonnes of LNG per year.

Upon completion, the nearshore LNG plant will increase Petronas’ LNG production from floating LNG facilities from 2.7 mtpa to 4.7 mtpa.

Currently, Petronas operates two floating LNG facilities, namely the 1.2 mtpa PFLNG Satu as well as the 1.5 mtpa PFLNG Dua, both located offshore Sabah.

Both of these units feature GTT’s containment tech, as well as Shell’s Prelude FLNG and Eni’s Coral FLNG.
