Shell appoints new head in Australia

LNG giant Shell has appointed Cecile Wake as the new head of its Australian unit.

Wake will succeed Tony Nunan as chair of Shell Australia effective May 22, 2023, according to a statement by Shell Australia.

Shell Australia said that Nunan will take up the newly created role of Shell’s chief of staff and corporate relations in London, reporting to the company’s CEO Wael Sawan.

The chief of staff role will support delivery of the strategic agenda for the CEO and executive committee and lead corporate relations for Shell.

Shell Australia’s new chair Wake was appointed CEO of Arrow Energy, Shell’s joint venture with PetroChina, in 2020.

Prior to this, she held senior commercial leadership roles at Shell and the BG Group.

“Cecile brings 25 years of international experience in LNG, oil and gas project development and operations and mergers and acquisitions,” the statement said.

Wake will also assume the role of senior VP integrated gas Australia, overseeing Shell’s operated and non-operated gas production and liquefaction businesses in Australia.

Shell operates the giant Prelude FLNG offshore Western Australia and the QCLNG plant on Curtis Island off Gladstone.

Besides Arrow Energy, Shell Australia is also a partner in Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project and Woodside’s North West Shelf LNG project.
