Valmet wins Tornio LNG gig

Finnish tech and automation firm Valmet said it has secured a contract for Manga LNG’s import facility in Tornio.

The Finnish facility is a joint venture consisting of the industrial companies Outokumpu and SSAB Europe, but also energy firms EPV Energy and Gasum.

Under the order received in the third quarter, Valmet said it would deliver its DNA integrated operations solution for the LNG facility.

Valmet did not disclose the value of the deal only saying it would launch the solution in June 2021.

Manga LNG already uses Valmet DNA automation system throughout its terminal operations.

“To make processes more efficient on our loading bay and in our order management, we will complement the existing system with Valmet DNA integrated operations solution and its electronic scheduling function,” said Mika Kolehmainen, Manga LNG CEO.

To remind, EPC contractor Wartsila announced the completion of the Tornio facility in northern Finland in June 2019.

Besides a 50,000-cbm LNG storage tank, the facility features unloading, pipeline distribution, regasification, truck loading, and ship bunkering facilities.

The Tornio LNG terminal serves the entire Bay of Bothnia region as well as industrial and mining operators, maritime transport and heavy-duty road transport in Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway.
