Cheniere ships first LNG cargo from third Corpus Christi train

US LNG exporter Cheniere has loaded and shipped the first commissioning cargo produced from the third train at its Corpus Christi liquefaction plant in Texas.

The 176,000-cbm La Mancha Knutsen left the Corpus Christi plant on Monday but its destination is unkown.

Besides being the first cargo from the third train, this marks also the 200th shipment for the Corpus Christi plant, Cheniere said.

“We continue to track ahead of schedule on Train 3,” the Houston-based firm said.

The Corpus Christi liquefaction plant currently consists of two operational trains with each having a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum. The third train will boost the total production to 15 mtpa.

To remind, Cheniere CEO Jack Fusco said during a call last month the firm expected to launch production at the third train soon following the introduction of feed gas to the unit in October.

Cheniere also revealed a new timeline of the train’s completion. Cheniere expects substantial completion in the first quarter of 2021.

This means that the unit will be completed ahead of the schedule as the firm previously planned to complete the train in the second half of 2021.
