GTT clinches new LNG tank gig from Samsung Heavy

French LNG containment specialist GTT has secured a new order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the contract awarded during the first quarter of this year, GTT will design the tanks of two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers, according to a statement.

The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Paris-based GTT said that Samsung Heavy will deliver these vessels to an Asian shipowner between the second and the third quarters of 2026.

GTT did not provide any additional information.

This order is probably related to Samsung Heavy’s announcement on April 3 saying it will build two LNG carriers for some $258.5 million per vessel.

Samsung Heavy said it won the deal on March 31, adding that the order is a “conditional contract”.

It plans to deliver the two vessels by November 2026.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime at the time that Japan’s shipping giant K Line is behind this order.
