Shell opens its first LNG fueling station in Austria

LNG giant Shell has launched its first LNG fueling station for vehicles in Austria as it continues to expand its network in Europe.

Shell’s unit in Austria announced the opening of the new station in St. Marienkirchen bei Schärding, near the German border, in a press release issued on Thursday.

According to Shell Austria, the station is expected to supply up to 200 trucks per day, helping to decarbonize the heavy duty sector in Austria.

Shell plans to supply bio-LNG in Austria in the future as well.

This announcement follows the recent launch of Shell’s first LNG fueling station in Hungary.

Shell opened the station on April 13 in Szigetszentmikloson and plans to launch more LNG fueling stations in the CEE (Central and Eastern Europe) region.

According to data by Gmobility, previously known as NGVA Europe, Austria currently hosts five LNG stations, while Hungary has three stations.

There are in total 664 stations in Europe, out of which Germany hosts 165 and Italy 138 stations.

Shell is one the largest owners of LNG fueling stations in Europe, and these are located in Germany, the Netherlands, etc.

The firm is investing in bio-LNG and is offering the fuel to its customers in the Netherlands from Nordsol’s facility in Amsterdam Westpoort.

Shell is also building its Rheinland bio-LNG plant in Germany and expects to launch this facility this year.
