GPC: Gladstone LNG plants shipped 29 cargoes in May

LNG exports from the Gladstone port in Australia’s Queensland rose by about 5.4 percent in May due to higher volumes going to China, Singapore, and Malaysia, according to the monthly data by Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Curtis Island is home to the Santos-operated GLNG plant, the ConocoPhillips-led APLNG terminal, and Shell’s QCLNG facility. These are the only LNG export facilities on Australia’s east coast.

Last month, about 1,927 million tonnes of LNG or 29 cargoes left the three Gladstone terminals on Curtis Island.

This compares to 1,828 million tonnes or 29 cargoes in May 2022, the data shows.

Compared to the previous month when LNG exports reached some 1,899 million tonnes of LNG or 29 cargoes, May LNG exports rose by about 1.5 percent.

Most of May LNG exports or 1,175 million tonnes landed in China, marking a rise of 16 percent when compared to 1,012 million tonnes last year.

Besides China, volumes to Malaysia increased to 248,353 tonnes last month from 184,091 tonnes in the same month last year, while volumes to Singapore rose to 209,303 tonnes last month from 120,744 tonnes last year.

GPC also reported that 226,018 tonnes of LNG were sent to South Korea in May, down from 275,710 tonnes last year, while volumes to Japan dropped to 68,344 tonnes from 234,796 tonnes in May 2022.
