Wartsila to supply equipment for Gasum’s bio-LNG plant in Sweden

Finland’s tech firm Wartsila said it will supply equipment for Gasum’s bio-LNG production plant in Gotene, Sweden.

According to a statement by Wartsila issued on Tuesday, the scope of supply includes the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the upgrading and liquefaction equipment.

The firm said it booked the order in May, but it did not provide the price tag of the deal.

Wartsila said its solution will upgrade the biogas from agricultural waste and then liquefy it into bio-LNG.

When operational in the beginning of 2025, the Wartsila offering will be capable of producing 25 tons of bio-LNG per day, it said.

Wartsila expects to deliver the equipment in August 2024.

Finnish state-owned energy firm and LNG supplier, Gasum, started building this bio-LNG plant in February this year.

The firm will invest nearly 54 million euros ($58.3 million) in the plant while the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s Klimatklivet investment program provided 15 million euros as a grant back in 2019.

Gasum said that the Gotene plant is the first one in a series of five large-scale biogas plants that firm plans to construct in Sweden during the next few years.

The other locations will be Borlange, Kalmar, Sjobo, and Horby.
