China’s New Times Shipbuilding in Jiangsu has signed a deal with Greece’s Capital Ship Management to build up to six LNG-powered tankers.
According to several reports in China, NTS signed the deal with the Evangelos Marinakis-led firm on June 13 and Marinakis was present at the signing ceremony.
The deal includes two firm 156,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers.
In addition, Capital Ship Management and NTS signed a letter of intent for 2+2 112,500-dwt LNG dual-fuel LR2 tankers.
NTS did not provide any additional information regarding the deal.
It only said that it signed contracts and LOIs for a total of 16 oil tankers with Capital Ship.
The shipbuilder also said that its total number of orders for LNG dual-fuel vessels has now reached 59, ranking first in China.
LNG Prime reported on April 27, citing shipbuilding sources and brokers, that Capital Ship ordered four LNG dual-fuel Suezmax tankers at NTS, as well as Maran Tankers Management, the oil tanker unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis Shipping Group.
Several shipbroking reports said at the time that both of the firms would pay $87 million per vessel and take delivery of the ships during 2026 and 2027.
Capital Ship Management’s website also shows that it has four 155,500-dwt tankers on orders at NTS and scheduled for delivery in 2026.
The company’s fleet counts 33 vessels, including LNG-ready chemical/product MR tankers and ammonia and LNG-ready very large crude carriers, the data shows.
