NFE, Ocean Point launch Saint Croix LNG ops

US LNG firm New Fortress Energy and Ocean Point Terminals have launched ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas operations at the latter’s dock facilities in Saint Croix, a part of the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.

According to a statement by Ocean Point, the firm held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project on June 22.

Ocean Point said it welcomed the first LNG carrier to its Dock 8 two weeks ago, where it will be moored for transfers on a temporary basis until a permanent operation is established on Dock 6 later this year.

Also, LNG will be transferred from large supply vessels to smaller shuttle ships for redistribution across the Atlantic region.

The firm did not provide any additional information regarding the FSU LNG project.

According to its AIS data, the 2010-built 155,000-cbm, GasLog Singapore, is currently located in Saint Croix.

NFE Transport Partners chartered this LNG carrier from GasLog until June 2025.

Ocean Point said this announcement of the company’s new operation follows a three-year process to enable LNG carriers to be moored at its facility for STS transfers and creates a new line of business for the company.

“The start-up of this project will provide broad benefits to St. Croix and the wider region. Importantly, this project significantly increases access to affordable, reliable, clean LNG fuel in the region to accelerate the regional energy transition,” Ocean Point’s CEO Todd Dillabough said in the statement.

“It also expands Ocean Point’s business offering to customers, enables additional follow-on business opportunities, builds on Ocean Point’s significant contributions to the US Virgin Islands over the last 57 years, and positions the company as a key energy logistics hub in the Atlantic Basin for LNG and both sustainable and green tech fuels of the future,” Dillabough said.
