Pasha Hawaii takes delivery of new LNG-powered containership

Texas-based AmFELS, a part of Seatrium, has delivered the second LNG-powered containership to US shipping firm Pasha Hawaii.

The shipbuilder handed over the 235 meters long, Janet Marie, on July 11, Pasha Hawaii said in a statement.

The new vessel joins Pasha Hawaii’s fleet serving the Hawaii/Mainland trade lane, as well as the company’s first Ohana Class vessel, George III, which began service on August 17, 2022.

According to the Hawaii-based shipping firm and a unit of the family-owned Pasha Group, the new Jones Act vessel surpasses the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2030 emission standards for ocean vessels.

The Ohana Class containership and its sister vessel have a capacity to carry 2,525 units and are powered by MAN ME-GI engines.

It previously expected to take delivery of both of the ships in 2020, but this was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Back in 2021, US LNG supplier Clean Energy Fuels joined forces with World Fuel Services to supply liquefied natural gas for the two container vessels.

The firm will provide LNG to the vessels from its plant in Boron, California.
