GTT’s 2020 LNG carrier tank order tally climbs to 41

France’s GTT has secured four more tank design jobs for LNG carriers boosting the total order book for this year to 41.

The new order comes from Korean shipyards Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

HHI will build two vessels on behalf of an Asian owner and one on behalf of a
European owner. Additionally, HSHI will build the last LNG carrier for a European firm, GTT said without providing more information.

Each of the 174,000 cbm vessels will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Furthermore, the Korean yards will deliver the vessels during the third and fourth quarter of 2024.

The vessels in question are probably related to a recent announcement by Shell regarding the charter of four 174,000-cbm newbuild LNG carriers.

Shell Tankers signed the deals with Norway’s Knutsen, South Korea’s Pan Ocean Co., and investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

Additionally, all of the vessels will feature dual-fuel X-DF engines, boil-off management plants, air lubrication systems, and shaft generators for auxiliary power.
