Finland’s Wartsila has won a contract to supply the LNG fuel gas supply (FGSS) systems for four new 23,000-teu LNG-fueled container vessels being built for France’s CMA CGM in China.
Wartsila said in a statement that China’s Hudong-Zhonghua is building the LNG-powered containerships for CMA CGM.
The French firm ordered four more ultra-large LNG-powered containerships at Hudong-Zhoghua earlier this year, and four vessels last year.
This latest order, which was booked as order intake by Wartsila in the second quarter, represents a continuation of Wartsila’s supply of fuel gas supply systems to CMA CGM vessels, it said.
During the past six years, Wartsila has been contracted to supply 30 of the company’s newbuild vessels with FGSS systems, it said.
Wartsila’s full scope of supply includes the system engineering, a dedicated material package, the boil-off gas compressor (BOGC) skid delivery, as well as the supervision, commissioning, and testing of the FGS systems.
The tech firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.
Wartsila plans to deliver the equipment to the yard in early 2024.
It said that the first two vessels are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the remaining two vessels during the second half of 2026.
