Equinor charters Furetank’s LNG-powered tanker

Swedish shipowner Furetank has chartered the 2021-built LNG-powered tanker, Fure Vinga, to Norway’s Equinor.

Furetank revealed the five-year charter deal in a social media post on Tuesday.

Fure Vinga will be trading in Northern Europe for Equinor.

The vessel will sail to Iceland, Sweden’s Gothenburg, Germany’s Hamburg, and other destinations.

Furetank did not provide any additional information.

The Swedish firm took delivery of this product and chemical tanker in China in January 2021, the seventh LNG-powered vessel ordered by Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance.

Also, Furetank is a founding partner of the joint venture and commercially manages the 17,999 dwt ice-class 1A vessel.

Methane slip

Finland’s Wartsila and Swedish Furetank are co-developing and testing two technologies to reduce the methane slip from LNG-powered vessels.

Furetank said in a recent statement that two technical solutions have been tested in Furetank’s Vinga series tankers.

The tests performed, both in the laboratory and at sea, showed “very promising” results and the methane slip was reduced by 45-50 percent, Furetank claims.

According to the firm, the functionality will be implemented in the Vinga sister vessels currently being built at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou, and retrofitted into all earlier ships in the series.
